Mackenzie has spent the past decade involved in education, and the last 6 as a teacher in the Loudoun County Public School (LCPS) system, where she was twice nominated elementary teacher of the year. She holds a Masters in Education from Stanford University and has certifications in Arts-Integration (The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts), Project-Based Learning (Buck Institute), Garden-Based Education (Life Lab), Readers' and Writers' Workshop (Columbia University), STEM-Integration (U.S. Space and Rocket Center), and Making Thinking Visible (Project Zero through Harvard University). She has presented her ideas on hands-on, integrated learning at the Progressive Education Summit, the Virginia Children's Engineering Convention, and the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. In 2020, she co-published the book Teacher as Artist in Residence with Kennedy Center colleagues. Mackenzie also holds a Commercial Driver's License and is a fully certified School Bus Driver.
Ashley has been a proponent of making messes since 2015 when she graduated with a Masters of Arts in Teaching from from the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at George Washington University. She is a certified Arts Integration Specialist and has spent the past six years developing curriculum, projects, programs, and magical moments designed to unlock the artist in every student -- and then training them to use those newly discovered artistic habits of mind to solve problems and create beautiful products across settings and content areas. Ashley has been nominated for teacher of the year and has received accolades and awards for her work in STEM and Arts Integration. She has certifications in Garden-Based Education (Life Lab), Maker-Centered Learning (Project Zero through Harvard University), and Children's Engineering and Design (Virginia Children's Engineering Council). She has presented her ideas on hands-on, integrated learning at the Progressive Education Summit and the Virginia Children's Engineering Convention. In her spare time, she can be found welding, weaving, or Wikipedia-ing obscure art facts to share with her students.
Mandy is currently in her third year at James Madison University. She is studying Special Education with a focus on both the Adaptive and Generalized curriculums. She has many years of experience working with children by teaching, nannying, and tutoring. Mandy has volunteered with many wonderful programs such as a Place to Be, Special Olympics, and Best Buddies. She is currently part of Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honors Society for Education, and is involved with numerous clubs at JMU that that work with students with disabilities. In her spare time, you can find Mandy outside walking her dog Maisy, kayaking, or hiking!
